This year, I recommend you resolve to get to know your Buffalo music scene just a bit better. You can begin your musical exploration by attending the Tralf’s JAMuary shoow on Saturday, January 14. This local musical celebration will showcase Free Henry!, Slip Madigan, Funktional Flow, and The MGKs .

Since being named “Best Original Rock Act” at the Buffalo Music Awards in 2009, Free Henry! has been delighting audiences in the Western New York region with its clever mix of jazz, blues, and jam rock. UBCFA "Goes" with David Shire

From Harold Arlen to Michael Bennett to Tom Fontana, Western New York has always been the launch pad for fine entertainers. One of the most lauded luminaries is David Shire, an Academy Award and two-time Grammy winner and multiple Tony and Emmy nominee, who has composed music for the theater (Baby, Big), movies, television (Shining Time Station), and beyond. He composed original music for Saturday Night Fever, All the President's Men, and Norma Rae (which included the Oscar winning song “It Goes Like It Goes”).

District of the Dead

Are you ready to let out a terror-induced ear-splitting shrill? Are you ready to be scared half to death in order to gain a new appreciation for life? Ready for that heart pounding, adrenaline-pumping thrill that you only get this time of year? Well you’re just in luck. Buffalo’s first professional haunted house is opening its doors this year.

For the past seven years the folks behind District of the Dead have ben staging succesful home hauntings, but this year they are going pro with their introduction of District of the Dead. While it may not be the largest haunted house experience available in WNY, it is entirely homegrown and is certainly the most creative.
