We profiled the very cool Roaming Buffaloes group in our September 2009 issue, and they ain’t slowing down. Now, the “adventure club” has come up with yet another reason to come to downtown Buffalo this summer.
Starting this Friday, June 11, the Buffalo News Tower Jam concert series offers an eclectic lineup blending local and international artists over four free happy hour concerts (4:30 to 7:30 p.m.) on the second Friday of each month through September 10. Staged in the plaza outside One HSBC Center, the series features music, food and drink.
The first concert will feature internationally acclaimed Trinidadian-born and Toronto-based trumpeter Brownman, who will play a tribute to Miles Davis with the help of some of Buffalo’s finest jazz musicians, including electric bassist Rodney Appleby; upright bassist Bill Staebell and his drumming son Aaron; Andy Weinzler on tenor sax; Angelo Di Loreto on piano; drummer Tim Webb; and members of Type Relevant.
Brownman will lead three separate ensembles through various eras of Davis' trendsetting career. This will be a mini-version of Brownman’s revered Canadian production of “Five Weeks for Miles,” where every October he leads five groups through five eras of Davis’ work over five straight Fridays.
