An evening at the ballpark for Team Gary

Early one morning this past February, Buffalo police officer Gary Sengbusch was struck by a drunk driver while coming home from his second job as a security guard. He was put into an intensive care unit at Erie Medical Center for nearly a month, and following a long recovery process is currently in the rehabilitation phase.

It’s an inspiring story, but even though Sengbusch has begun to take positive steps forward toward a successful recovery, there will be many other challenges to overcome—especially financial challenges. Since he was off-duty at the time of the accident, he will not be receiving a paycheck from the City of Buffalo to help with his medical expenses.

But you can help, and enjoy a night at the ballpark while doing it. On Thursday, June 30, the City of Buffalo Police Department, the Buffalo Bisons, and Buffalo Charities have joined together to hold a fundraiser in Gary’s honor called “Team Gary Bisons Benefit Bash.”

The pregame festivities start at 5 p.m. at Coca-Cola Field and include a concert by Strictly Hip, along with raffles, a split-club, and discounted food and beverages. And after the game there will be a post-game fireworks display.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the links below or at all City of Buffalo Police Precincts, the Music Exchange in Hamburg, the Buffalo Sports Garden in Orchard Park, Park Avenue Imprints in Lackawanna, the Irish Center in South Buffalo, or WECK Radio in Cheektowaga. All ticket proceeds go toward “Team Gary Bisons Benefit Bash.” Visit www.teamgary.org for more info.
