Spree Music with E. Lovria: JAMuary
This year, I recommend you resolve to get to know your Buffalo music scene just a bit better. You can begin your musical exploration by attending the Tralf’s JAMuary shoow on Saturday, January 14. This local musical celebration will showcase Free Henry!, Slip Madigan, Funktional Flow, and The MGKs .
Since being named “Best Original Rock Act” at the Buffalo Music Awards in 2009, Free Henry! has been delighting audiences in the Western New York region with its clever mix of jazz, blues, and jam rock. The band has recently released its second album, “Ethereal Gust” which demonstrates the band's ability to integrate other music styles into their set list without losing their own unique vibe. Songs like “Introspection”, show a bit of R&B soul while "Wise-up" illustrates a reggae-influence. Much more than just your typical jam band, Free Henry! also won the Niagara Falls Hard Rock Café’s Battle of the Bands, which comes with the reward of performing as the headliner at Hard Rock Café Boston, a unique qopportunity to chance to increase theri Boston fan base.
Considered one of Buffalo’s “best bands you most likely never heard of”, Slip Madigan has been together since 2005, with a relentless schedule and extensive instrumental exploration into a wide assortment of musical genres, Slip has carefully crafted a sound they can truly call their own. The group’s passion and musical understanding gives them the ability to create songs by weaving a colorful tapestry of sounds. This band is best heard live as thus far, recordings do not do the band's undefined, yet still familiar, style justice.
The Tralf also include up-and-coming acts Funktional Flow and the MKGs. Both bands are carving out their place in the local scene with persistent performing in and around the region.
Go ahead, be that musical snob who can say “I knew of them way back when” and take this special opportunity to see some budding local musical talent. Tickets are currently on sale for $8. They will be $10 the day of show. Doors open at 7pm and the fun begins at 8pm.
