Books fit to eat
Have you ever found a book so wonderful, so deliciously well-written, that you wished you could ingest it? Perhaps not, but now you’re thinking about it, aren’t you? Voracious readers will soon have their chance. The Western New York Book Arts Center will participate in the fourth annual International Edible Book Festival on April 1, where scrumptious, aromatic, and creatively assembled edible books submitted by local artists will be displayed, photographed, and then consumed to determine winners in the following categories: “Best Book,” “Best Tasting,” and “Most Creative.” This year’s celebrity judges will include Peter Cimino of Lloyd’s Taco Truck and John Gardon of Sterling Place Tavern.
Admission is $5 and all attendees may help consume the books after judging, in addition to less literary food and drink. I’d love to see a culinary interpretation of my favorite graphic novel, Chew, but perhaps the artists would prefer to sink their teeth into something a little crunchier––Siddhartha, perhaps. The event will take place at 468 Washington Street downtown from 4 to 8 pm; for information or to register your edible book visit wnybookarts.org.
