Chalk art takes over WNY this weekend

Chalk art takes over WNY this weekend

One weekend, two major chalk art events.

The 500 Block of Main Street will be home to the first ChalkFest in downtown Buffalo on Saturday, August 11, and running through Sunday, August 12. The festival will feature numerous activities, events, and of course, an eye-widening amount of chalk. All are invited, and world-renowned street artist Michael Macauley will be present, creating a one-of-a-kind design.

Other activities will include hopscotch competitions, scully boards (a New York City styled sidewalk game from the fifties and sixties,) and a live storybook reading of the history of street art. The streets will be surrounded with live music and break-dancers as entertainment, and the local restaurants will be serving foods of Buffalo pride.

Meanwhile, the 28th Annual KeyBank Chalk Walk Competition will take place on August 11 during this year’s 46th Annual Lewiston Art Festival. Festival-goers are encouraged to stop by for this free event and watch the beautiful transformation of the Lewiston streets. The competition, sponsored by KeyBank and Mount St. Mary Hospital and Health Center, will be held noon to 4 p.m. at Fifth and Center Street.
