FeedNick Lowe plays tonight
Ashbury Hall at Babeville welcomes storied singer-songwriter Nick Lowe tonight, September 19 as he tours in support of his latest album, The Old Magic, released in 2011. Like fine wine, this musician just gets better with age and this is a unique opportunity for the Buffalo music aficionado to see such a legend in our own backyard.
While the name Nick Lowe may escape a more casual music lover, his hits “Cruel to be Kind” and "(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding" (the latter made famous when covered by Elvis Costello) are well known to many. In fact, one can easily make the case that his songs are better known than he is. Celebrated throughout his lengthy career by critics for his brilliant songwriting and musicianship, Lowe has remained under-the-radar for most of this time, as his songs rarely get the radio time they so rightfully deserve. In the late 1970s, he paved the way for the British punk, pub rock, and new wave rockers into the American music scene and was notably instrumental in the production of Elvis Costello’s first 5 albums as well as the Damned’s first record.
