Raising a mug to Buffalo Brewfest 2012
As hockey fans from around the country prepared for round one of the NHL Draft, the home of the Buffalo Sabres, First Niagara Center, played host to a different kind of “draft”—the formal announcement of the details of the 2012 Buffalo Brewfest.
Presented by Craft Beer Exchange at APlus, the annual event, which is entering its eleventh year, will be held again at the First Niagara Center on Friday, August 10 from 5 to 9:30 p.m.
Tim Herzog, owner of Flying Bison Brewing Company, tapped a ceremonial keg as he explained some of the event’s expansions including raising the number of tickets available to 5,000, and increasing the number of brewers and craft beers available.
“There will be representatives from the [forty-five to fifty] breweries,” Herzog says, “which makes this a fairly unique beer festival. These brewers feel that [it's] worthwhile to come to Buffalo because this is such a great beer town."
Herzog went on to explain that the “footprint of the event” has also expanded and will now encompass the first two levels of the Center as well as the outdoor plaza area. He said that this was done to allow for greater mobility and to alleviate the hectic atmosphere of the event, which he said, is a sign of the event’s success.
“You put on a good event and a lot of people want to come and share in that good time,” Herzog says. “And in Buffalo, a good time means a good beer.”
All the proceeds from the event will go to the Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center, a not-for-profit organization focused on diagnosing and treating children and young adults with speech-language and hearing problems.
Presale tickets are available now at www.buffalobrewfest.com and www.tickets.com for $30 and on Monday, July 2 at Western New York locations of Craft Beer Exchange exclusively at APlus stores. Tickets will also be available the day of the event for $35. Parking will be free and those in attendance must be twenty-one or older and bring an ID.
