Spree Music with E. Lovria: Feist

On Sunday, July 15, Buffalo Place will welcome Canadian singer/songwriter Feist. This show will be a sweet summer treat at a concert venue that is quickly becoming the place to be for music during Buffalo’s summer concert season.
Most know Feist for her hit “1234”, featured in the iPod Nano commercial in 2007. While the charming hit gained Feist a larger audience in the U.S., her influence was widely felt within the Toronto indie music scene as early as the late 90s with Canadian cult favorites By Divine Right and Broken Social Scene. Many consider Feist an indie pop artist, but she explores other musical genres with the jazzy and sensual song “My Man, My Moon” and what I would classify as “country with French flair” in the tune “Le Meme Histoire”. Her songs focus on the trials and tribulations of life in a lyrically artful way. Her words create a foundation for her music, creating engaging, tender harmonies that develop imagery in the listener’s head with each song. Even with the tougher subjects of loss and grief, Feist’s gentle vocals lend a sense of hope.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to catch a show down at the Harbor yet, this is your chance. With excellent acoustics and a spectacular waterfront view, a Feist performance will be even more extraordinary here than anywhere else I can imagine in Western New York. What could be better than a performance by a delightfully inventive songstress as the sun slowly fades away in the background, painting the lake hues of pinks and orange?
