An all-star auction

Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center has a deep bench. Since 1975, the artist-run organization has sought out the most exciting artists working in contemporary media at any given time—in and out of Buffalo. Nearly five decades of this activity has created a huge registry of artists, and many of them fondly remember Hallwalls as the place that recognized them early in their careers.
That’s what makes the annual Hallwalls auction (AHA!) such an important event for local collectors. Outside of major auction houses or New York galleries, it might not otherwise be possible to access much of the work included in AHA!. This year, works by Bruce Adams, Jeremy Boye & Mark Franchino, Erin Finley, Pam Glick, Mark Lavatelli, Robert Longo, John Opera, Joseph Picillo (artwork shown above), Gary Sczerbaniewicz, Jaqueline Welch, and others. There are forty auction lots in all.
The festive event also includes a full bar, including special cocktails; heavy hors d’oeuvres; and plenty of time to mingle and review the artworks before the bidding begins.
AHA! happens Thursday, May 31, 7 p.m., with the bidding beginning promptly at 8 p.m. Call 854-1694 or visit hallwalls.org.
