New thrills to the north

Spree ambassadors brave a new ride at Canada’s Wonderland

Spree ambassadors Paul Morgan and Mark Nowak (above) were among the first to brave a new ride at Canada’s Wonderland called the Yukon Striker. Technically a roller coaster, this instrument of terror dives 245 feet, making it the tallest dive coaster in the world. Riders hang over the edge, looking down for a full three seconds before descending at eighty miles an hour. Nowak, who’s been riding since the age of five and made a prize-winning Super-8 film of one of his Comet rides in 1973, reports, “It’s a great adrenaline rush for all of us coaster junkies. And it does provide a surprisingly smooth ride.” The theme park opened for the season in May; visit canadaswonderland.com for more information.
