Pucker up for Pizza Plant

Pucker up for Pizza Plant

In case you've been living under a rock built by Anheuser Busch, sour beer is the latest craze in the craft beer movement––even though it's one of the oldest styles of beer in the world. Beer geeks love the funky, earthy notes that wild and sour yeast strains offer; better yet, and somewhat surprisingly, sours are a fantastic "gateway beer" for wine drinkers who claim to hate the taste of beer. If you love riesling, sauvignon blanc, and other snappy grapes, sour beer has your name written all over it. Pizza Plant on Transit Road is already the place to be on Sundays if you're a beer lover. This weekend that's truer than ever, as the Plant is hosting Sour Power: Beers That Make You Pucker. The lineup is absolutely killer: famed legends like...

Australian singer/songwriter Shelley Segal comes to Buffalo

Shelley Segal is living proof that you don’t have to be religious to bring down the house with a voice full of soul. The Australian singer-songwriter’s powerful pipes and jazz/funk/reggae/blues guitar chops complement thoughtful lyrics celebrating life, love, and reason––her song “Saved,” which derides the “dooms-daying” bombarding our world from the religious Right, has become an anthem of the secular movement after she performed at last year’s Reason Rally to a crowd of 25,000 in Washington, D.C.  Her impressive list of upcoming projects includes a jazz album with guitarist singer-song writer Adam Levy, a folk-pop album of love songs, and an upbeat indie-folk EP collaboration with her partner, titled Snow Pear.  ...

Danceability: “to enable through movement”

“Dance was a retreat, an emotional outlet, a place for friends and laughter, as well as a pleasurable form of exercise” for Danceability’s founders, the organization's website states. Danceability, a nonprofit program, began in January of 2007 when founders Robin Bishop and Christine Kwaitkowski discovered they shared a common love for dance. They both started dancing at a young age, but as they grew older they didn’t have as much time to pursue this passion. They created the studio with the goal of helping children and adults with special needs use dance and movement to become empowered and also to promote good health. They saw a need: filling the gap in dance education. “There were programs for the disabled population; there were none...

We know Spree readers will be thrilled to hear that we are giving away two tickets for tomorrow's Josh Ritter show at Asbury Hall. Ritter and the Royal City Band will headline a show that also includes an acoustic set by Sea Wolf. Written and recorded in the 18 months after his divorce, Ritter's newest album, The Beast In Its Tracks, has received praise from critics. AllMusic finds that his break-up album, unlike others, is “[treating] the situation with anger, warmth, despair, humor, honesty, and most importantly, empathy for both of its subjects, something that many records of a...
