Hands Across Buffalo Twitter contest
Social media allows us to share our thoughts with the world. But if we narrow the focus, we can harness its power and spread important messages to people, right here in WNY.
Now, by simply tweeting, you can celebrate our city, support a cause, and have the opportunity to be published.
Hands Across Buffalo, presented by First Niagara, will take place on May 17. Seven thousand people are expected to commune at Ferry Street and link hands in a symbolic action of unity. The event will serve as a reminder of the strengths and assets of different communities standing together, and the bright future ahead.
Exactly two months before the event kicks off, Hands Across Buffalo is initiating a Twitter poetry contest. Participants are asked to write poems celebrating diversity. The winning poem will be determined by a panel of three judges from Just Buffalo Literary Center, and as a prize, it will be published in the pages of the Buffalo Spree's April issue, which is fitting since April is National Poetry Month.
Poets can enter by following Hands Across Buffalo (@HandsAcrossBuff) and adding the hashtag #HandsAcrossBuffalo to your under-121-character tweet. Poems must be family friendly and meet all criteria to be entered in the competition.
The contest runs February 17–23 and not only signifies a countdown to the event, but the beginning of a new community forum.
