Buffalo Protests

George Floyd’s murder during an arrest on May 25 in Minneapolis sparked an immediate and passionate reaction throughout the US and beyond. Buffalo was no exception. Throughout late May and early June, mass gatherings took place throughout Buffalo in support of  the Black Lives Matter movement. There have been speeches in front of City Hall and the Erie County Holding Center, vigils in Martin Luther King Jr. Park, and a massively attended march up Elmwood Avenue, from City Hall to Bidwell Park. There has been a Mother’s March, a teachers’ march, and other such themed events. The Juneteenth commemoration kicked off more activism. Aside from some property damage and violence in late May, the protests have been peaceful.
