11/28/12Niagara Falls Culinary Institute is OpenThe new facility for Niagara County Community College’s culinary school, the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute (NFCI), has opened in a portion of the former Rainbow Mall in Niagara Falls, with 400 students and a state-of-the-art facility with seven teaching kitchens, three restaurants, and a wine boutique. Students taste the fruits of their labor in one of NFCI's teaching kitchens. The school has moved its culinary and hospitality programs to the new facility as well as many core education classes, so the location is bustling with energy. Matt Brewing Company's Saranac Beer has embraced New York State’s reemergence of hops farmers with a special “farm-to-mug” IPA made with local heirloom hops from Wrobel Farms, an organic garlic, heirloom hop and modern hop cultivator located in Bridgewater, New York, just outside Utica. The limited-edition wet-hop beer is the latest in Saranac’s High Peaks series, a line of small-batch, specialty craft beers in 22-ounce bottles.
