Two readers cancel subscriptions over June "Proud" issue
We're pretty proud (not to overuse the term) of our June issue––Spree's very first cover feature dedicated to LGBTQ life in Western New York, now on newsstands. But not everyone was pleased. Two readers cancelled their subscriptions this month, and sent explanatory letters. I thought it would be instructive to publish them here.
This man asked for both a cancellation and a refund of his subscription after discovering the issue:
The "letter of June 26, 2012" to which Thomas refers is below; this letter was apparently to be our warning that we risk "loosing" subscribers. He complained about our "in your face" Jonathan Katz profile and announced:
Another reader expressed her religious convictions in the following note, reminding us that "Christianity is over two thousand years old" and asking us to "be chaste." She also disapproved of our October 2012 wine issue.
To the rest of you, we hope you enjoy our commitment to celebrating life in Western New York, for all Western New Yorkers. We are fully aware that you just can't please everybody––nor would we want to.
