Spree Style with Erin Habes: Fashion Dolls come to life
People coming from the north often find themselves heading to the Walden Galleria or the Fashion Outlets of Niagara. And don’t get me wrong, both are a fashion lover’s dream, but what about the local shopping? Do they even know about Elmwood or Hertel Avenue and beyond?
With the rebirth of our great city, Visit Buffalo Niagara saw the need to dig a little deeper into the local shopping scene. Piggybacking off of the success of the ‘Girlfriend Getaway” video (see below), an exciting joint venture between VBN and myself was born .
The task at hand was to develop an identity for the undiscovered aspects of Buffalo’s shopping scene while enticing them to stay the night and really explore our city. Tourists and Canadian shoppers needed to know that we are more than just an oasis of malls and outlets.
With that in mind, the Buffalo Fashion Dolls were created to gear the fashion thirsty toward their ideal shopping destinations. Everyone can identify with a trend or a character, and the Fashion Dolls embody just that. Designer Ali Eagen had the pleasure of sketching the lovely ladies and Modern Bohemian, Flirty Femme, Trendsetter, Performance Chic, Vintage Betty, and Classically Minimal, quickly all came to life. With a sassy, stylish look the Fashion Dolls of Buffalo will guide visitors on a shopping adventure packed with fun and some major tongue n’ cheek humor. (I believe Modern Bohemian ends up at “The Pink” for a steak sandwich at 4 a.m.!)
In the fall of 2012, Visit Buffalo Niagara ran a much-anticipated “Girlfriend Getaway” shopping spree promotion. Participants chose which Fashion Doll best fit their personal style and entered to win a fabulous weekend trip to Buffalo with a tour of some of the best shopping the city has to offer. Venturing beyond the ubiquitous mall, this weekend our own Karen Fashana from Visit Buffalo Niagara will lead a group of 10 winning gals around town. I can hear the chant now … “Troop Beverly Hills. Shopping is our greatest thrill!”
