Spree Style with Erin Habes: Work it

Spree Style with Erin Habes: Work it

Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” -Rachel Zoe

The buzz of fashion is in the air, with New York and Milan Fashion Weeks fresh on our minds. It’s hard not to think about how it effects our own hometown mix of creative individuals. Over the past few years, I can comfortably say there has been a growing fashion scene in Buffalo, one that is fueled by the daily online fashion feeds.

How could we not be taking notes, with every blog flooding us with imagery and exposing us to everything from runway glam shots and crazy backstage pics to magazine editors sharing what nail color they chose to wear that day. The urge to follow designers on Instagram and Twitter has opened a world of sharing the coveted front row seat, all with the simple action of snapping, posting, and allowing the fashion-thirsty to sate their instant gratification.

My father always says, “Erin, there are three kinds of people in this world, the people that make it happen, the people that watch it happen, and the people that don’t know what the hell happened.” Thank goodness we are seeing rising stars among us who are putting on local fashion shows (Holly Hue), styling photo shoots (Alison Pieroni), and creating indie vintage craft fairs (Vanessa Ron).

Feeding on this fashion frenzy, is the excitiment we experience as we see others getting the itch to dive in and make it all happen. That’s the one thing I think makes Buffalo so special. It is the support and the empowerment of our community. A nurturing environment, where you are able to build yourself within a small network that can lead to big network ideas.

With fashion expression at an all-time high, along with a growing acceptance to be different, don’t just sit there, let’s get to it!

Bring on the fashion. Buffalo’s ready.
