Spree Style with Erin Habes: Buffalo Dandy

Dandy up, Buffalo. Who knew that dressing like a gentleman could challenge the Zubaz mentality of a Rust Belt city? The popular menswear trend has been around for a few years now and it isn’t going anywhere. Local blogger and style enthusiast Chris Bissonette started BuffaloDandy.com about two years ago at the height of the growing movement. A meticulous dresser, Bissonette became the voice of Buffalo’s menswear scene—or lack thereof, which didn’t stop him. Creating a dandy culture in a town where sweatpants ruled, he singlehandedly gave gentlemen hope while educating them on fashion options local and beyond.
The blog is witty, informative, and downright perfect, just like the men who read it. It’s a way of life, featuring the hottest new products that feed this proper style. One of Buffalo Dandy’s most popular recent blog posts was about comparison-shopping, wherein he reveals the pros and cons of a particular item with two different price points. It’s brilliant, which is just what the men in Buffalo need.
But who is the man behind the blog? I had the pleasure of sitting down with Bissonette for lunch at Martin Cooks. After a great conversation about the exciting things happening in the city of Buffalo, I wanted to find out more about his style journey and what makes him tick. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that he wasn’t born in a tailored suit—he developed this dandy sensibility over time. Embracing the style of the moment, his fashion past ranges from surfer cool to nineties Pauly Shore-wacky, followed by Goth and prep, until finally, his dandy style was born.
