Store Opening: Blush

Good news, fashion fans! The Elmwood Village has officially welcomed a new boutique to its vibrant shopping scene. The shop is located across the street from JP Bullfeathers, just a few feet away from the intersection at Bidwell Parkway. Blush is the brainchild of Lexie Furlong and Vicky Schaffstall. These lovely ladies are bringing the glam back to Elmwood, missing since Damsel in a Dress closed several years ago. The shop’s mission is to make women feel downright beautiful through a carefully curated selection of clothing, jewelry, beauty products, and footwear. Oh, and be prepared for major interior envy!

I had the pleasure of sitting down with co-owner, Lexie Furlong, pictured left. She gave me the low-down on this great addition to our retail community!

What inspired you to open your store?
When I was a young girl I loved playing dress up and shopping for clothes. Wait!  Who am I kidding? I love doing that now!
After attending the Fashion Institute of Technology, I started working as a director of e-commerce and an assistant buyer for WINK, a family-owned boutique in NYC. This experience really grew my passion for entrepreneurship. After moving back to Buffalo, all it took was my mother-in-law believing in me, and together we dove head first into creating Blush. We think there's no better feeling then spending time with a client to create the perfect look, and then seeing them smile in a photo wearing the outfit you picked out!

How does your store fit into the Elmwood Village and what does it add?
Blush celebrates the variety of local businesses that already exist on Elmwood. I hope to express myself through Blush, while tapping into Elmwood’s creativity. It’s one of the reasons why I chose Elmwood, along with the strong sense of community. I admire the teamwork here, and I hope to aid in Buffalo’s exciting growth. I see big things in our future!

What do you hope the shopping experience will be for your customers?
We want Blush to be remembered for customer service, fancy décor, and the unique style of the pieces available for purchase. I hope our customers trust our recommendations, and don't feel pressure while they are shopping. Blush is every girl’s dream walk-in closet. I want customers to feel comfortable, and express their desires, so I can help them find what they are looking for. While they are here, they can help ythemselves to candy, cupcakes, and the fruit-infused water that will be available at our cozy seating area! To me, the experience is the most important thing, and I hope I can make everyone feel special.

Describe the inspiration for the store’s interior—which aspects reflect your aesthetic?
As a buyer, going on showroom appointments is always the best, well, maybe second to watching Diane Von Furstenberg at Fashion Week. What I love most about the showroom atmosphere is the one-on-one treatment and the appearance of the merchandise. We're creating a space that will resemble a showroom, a space that is sleek with a touch of sparkle. With acrylic fixtures, ornate mirrors, and sheer, elegant curtains, it feels posh. While your friend is trying on a dress, you can have a seat by our fireplace and enjoy the girly movies playing on our flat screen TV. But my favorite pieces, thus far, are our chandeliers and silver mannequins. Plus our cash register/checkout area is made using materials from Buffalo Reuse, adding DIY glam to my interior.

Blush is located at 1005 Elmwood Ave., and will be open at the end of July! Visit their website and shop till you drop at shopblushny.com.
