We’re flipping our lids over the New Era X Nautica collection

The 1990s aesthetic continues to reign in fashion. It’s the go-to style inspiration for Gen Z and millennials who love a good throwback. Now, the ultimate nostalgia moment enters the fashion scene with Buffalo’s very own New Era Cap Co.

The international lifestyle brand is the epitome of self-expression by athletes, artists, and some of the most interesting people around the globe. The company recently released its first-ever collaboration with classic American sportswear brand Nautica. Pause for a sec… Nautica? If you’re like me, this takes you back to a time when this preppy sailboat aesthetic was all over the 90s scene. Brands like Nautica are rocking a comeback, along with the likes of Calvin Klein, Esprit, Jockey, and the list goes on. I’m not saying that we are all going to be wearing mood rings and bleaching our hair, but this is an interesting collaboration worth sharing.

New Era Cap and Nautica collaborated on this limited-edition capsule collection, featuring “one of one” hats created from deconstructed vintage Nautica jackets. Each hat is its own unique piece with elements from the jackets, including patches, labels, pockets, and hardware. In addition to this collaboration with the vintage jackets, they used this as a jumping off point to design a more extensive collection inspired by Nautica’s classic Hydro Race, Scuba, and bold color-block jackets. “The New Era X Nautica Collections are one of the most exciting partnerships of the season,” says Christina McAdam, Lifestyle Product Director for New Era Cap. “The approach is both innovative and breathtaking; together, we have united the vintage history of Nautica with the contemporary cultural style of New Era Cap. It’s an exciting, fashion-forward partnership.”

The idea of repurposed clothing or textile recycling is something we need more of from big fashion brands. If you’re not familiar with the upcycling concept, companies use pre-existing clothing and restructure it into new garments or, in this case, hats. This is a sustainable and creative way to create new fashion. It’s exciting to think about all the possibilities of what clothing from the past can be made into in the future. We tip our hats to New Era Cap for bringing stylish lids forward by creatively looking to the past.

Here are some of my favorite picks from the New Era X Nautica Collections. Enjoy!
