Emanuel Ungaro at Paris Fashion Week

Emanuel Ungaro at Paris Fashion Week

From the Ungaro spring collection

Oh, Emanuel, with such a prestigious tutelage at the house of Balenciaga and Courrèges in Paris, and with hot fuschia and sex as your fashion color, the label—without you—has come under harder times. Owner Asim Abdullah, via President Mounir Moufarrige, brought in Lindsay Lohan as Artistic Director. True, Mourfarrige introduced Stella McCartney to Chloe and well, the rest of that is fashion history, but lightning did not strike twice. Much has been written about the October 2009 Lohan walk of shame, the tartiness of the collection, and mostly, well, the heart-shaped-valentine-looking pasties.

However, all was not a big hot mess, and in fact, these three items demonstrate the progressions on a theme worth noting. The lined bird of paradise is apparent as inspiration, worked into to the bird in flight “v,” which in turn collaborates with the “v” of the heart work, to say nothing of the fact that about 80% of all women would look and feel great in that bathing suit and cover up. Watch for the label and see what happens next. At least something is happening.
