"Children by the million sing for Alex Chilton ..."

One of my favorite music-related books of the last year or so was Bruce Eaton's 33 1/3 series study of Big Star's immortal Radio City, and considering that Chilton passed away just days ago, the book seems even more profound and relevant now.

Eaton is a frequent Spree contributor, and has had much to say since Chilton's death. You can read an obituary he wrote for salon.com here, and visit his own blog, as well.

(I must point out how pleased I am that I was able to see Chilton in action with the Box Tops a few months ago at the Seneca Niagara Casino's Bear's Den. It was a blast, to put it succinctly, and even though the man himself didn't seem in the best of health—extremely thin, and a tad frail—I'll never forget the show.)
