Spree Music with J. DiDomizio: London vs. NY
A couple of my friends are into jam bands, as I found out last weekend when they lamented not being able to attend Phish’s three day festival and in the same breath grumbled about their lack of tickets to tonight’s sold out Black Keys show. I reminded them that moe. will be playing Artpark on July 20th (plus, it's free!), and we got to talking about past shows. Jam bands are not my particular cup of tea, I explained, so next Wednesday, I have a different band on my radar.
I like London Vs. New York so much, that I’ve written about them in several forums. Since their 2007 LP Words and Behavior came out, they’ve been playing shows in and around Buffalo, with an ever increasing profile. Last month they were covered by Buffalo.com, not for their music, but for their style. In May, LVNY helped fellow Buffalo rockers The F%#@ing Hotlights release their debut LP, and now they’re bringing their brand of post-punk rock and roll to Soundlab.
During a LVNY set, the excitement on stage pours out into the audience with every riff, spoken/sung lyric, and each propulsive thump of the bass or hit on the hi-hat. Listening to LVNY, the energy and impact of the music is as evident on the CD as it is live. Take a listen to some of the tracks on their MySpace page, and hear for yourself.
Joining them on stage on the 20th will be HotChaCha and Prisoners, both from Cleveland, Ohio. The show starts at 9pm at Soundlab, and tickets are available at the door. CDs and merch will be available too, but don’t look for any new songs from LVNY for purchase just yet. They’re still planning their follow up, so keep them on your radar.
