Donna Hoke has always been much more than a freelancer for Spree, where she edits Spree Home, previews theater, reviews Shaw productions, and proofreads whatever needs it. She’s also a prolific playwright who’s deeply involved with Buffalo’s theater scene.
It’s only fitting that Hoke made sure the theater community could participate in her wedding to Buffalo Philharmonic bassist (and Spree classical music writer) Edmond Gnekow. The wedding took place at 5 p.m., June 5, on the evening of The Arties, the theater community’s annual awards event, held this year at 710 Main. As the pictures show, Hoke is accompanied by her four children and the officiant is none other than Anthony Chase, another Spree writer, and a longtime dignitary in Buffalo’s theater scene. The inclusive event was open to whomever happened to be passing by on Main Street as well as Hoke’s friends, family, and Facebook audience. We at Spree are proud of the accomplishments of our talented associate, and happy to continue her spirit of inclusion—with our readers.
