Zillycakes featured on Food Network Challenge
Food Network Challenge is known for its weekly food battles airing small town cook-offs to contests featuring giant hand carved cakes. Each episode has a unique theme with teams of contestants looking to score bragging rights and a big cash prize.
On Sunday, July 3 at 8:00pm, two of Buffalo’s own, Shannon Pilarski and Zilly Rosen of Zillycakes (1008 Elmwood Ave.) will be featured on the top=rated Food Network program, squaring off against other talented pastry artists in a cake challenge with a Star Wars theme.
Pilarski will take the position of lead cake artist with Zillycakes' owner Rosen as her assistant. Together they will compete against three other teams. The Zillycakes team will have to use the Force and maybe a few Jedi mind tricks to defeat their foes, because the competition will be stiff. Whoever makes a cake so Star Wars-worthy that Jabba the Hutt would blush, will win a $10,000 cash prize and a trip Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL.
In October, Pilarski and Rosen will switch roles. Rosen will take the role of lead artist. as they compete in a Halloween-themed version of Food Network Challenge. Ont he air date (October 30) Zillycakes will host a public viewing party complete with costumes at Artisan Kitchens and Baths. We'll remind you closer to the date, so you can make a reservation to join the Zillycakes crew during the airing of this spooky and spectacular competition.
And don't forget Buffalo's own version of Challenge, Nickel City Cake Challenge, slated for November 6th. The Zillycakes team has participated twice before, perhaps there will be a repeat performance.
