LRW Preview: Burgers, burgers, and more burgers
It's hard not to love a burger, and these days burgers are not only popular, they have developed into a food category worth noticing. Lamb and pork occasionally find their way into the patty, along with shortribs and all sorts of other tasty ingredients. But don't let the carnivores fool you—it's not just about the meat! Hardcore foodies have extremely intense opinions about buns, condiments, cooking surfaces—you name it; the burger has staked (no pun intended) its claim in the world of gastronomy.
Due to the tremendous value a burger can bring, this fall there is no shortage of places serving burgers as part of their Local Restaurant Week deals. Let's take a look at a few.
At Soho, a favorite burger spot of mine, you can enjoy two meals at the $20.12 price point. Here the LRW deal brings two signature Soho burgers to the table, along with two drinks, two desserts, and a side to split. The burgers here are made from a custom meat mixture, ground by Johnny's Meats, as well as handmade brioche buns from Romeo & Juliet's. I haven't been in a while, but they really are quite good.
My Burger Bar is new on the scene, and what it lacks in ambiance it makes up for with huge portions. Here the $20.12 offer will also net you two burgers, a pass through the salad bar, and two servings of ice cream. The signature burgers available with this offer include the Classic Burger, the Rodeo Burger, (which is topped with American cheese, crispy onion rings, lettuce, tomato, and Frank's Red Hot), the Bleu Burger (featuring bleu cheese, bacon, red onion, lettuce, and tomato), and the Spicy Chicken Burger.
Blue Monk, Elmwood's hot and happening gastropub, has a variety of items on its LRW menu, but since this article has a particular focus, we are including them here for their Colorado bison burger, prepared on the grill and topped with housemade blackberry jam, fried goat cheese, and rocket (aka arugula) on toasted brioche. YUM!
Tomorrow we will look at places on the LRW list that you'll want to visit this weekend, with a sweetheart or a friend.
