Tony Bourdain Returns (UPDATED)
For those of you who may not have already heard, culinary bad boy Anthony Bourdain will return to Buffalo on November 15 for a speaking engagment. Tickets go on sale August 17. The show at Shea's is sure to be a sell-out considering the author and celebrity chef's popularity here in the Queen City. I saw him a couple of years ago in Rochester and it was a great night, filled with tales from his travels and some killer one-liners regarding culinary less-thans such as Paula Deen and Sandra Lee. He also took a lot of questions from the audience, which was largely fun and a good idea in general as it made the show more interesting, but if you don't know anything about Bourdain or what he does, I'd like to ask on behalf of the rest of the audience that you spend 5 minutes with Google. "How did you get your start?" "Do you miss cooking?" We've heard it all before.
Update: Shea's contacted us last night (8/9/2012) to tell us that this event has been "cancelled until further notice due to a scheduling conflict." Hopefully we can announce a new Bourdain in Buffalo date in the near future.

2-2 rocks downtown
Chef 2-2 has been on the Buffalo scene a long time. You can always spot him sipping a nice glass of wine at any of the finer food events held about town, and he was the man who made O (formerly located on the corner of Niagara Falls Boulevard and Sheridan Drive in Amherst) such a dynamite experience in its early years. He's heading the kitchen at a new restaurant in downtown's Sidway building called Kaydara. The noodle bar is only open for takeout at the moment, but you can expect it won't be long before the dining room will open. There isn't a website or any trace of info online about the new joint, but we scored a takeout menu off FB.:
Buffalo food print
Yesterday a friend of mine posted a link to a Kickstarter campaign on her Facebook page. It's a campaign supporting a project from designer Roni Lagin. The project features prints of regional food favs from cities around the country. My friend pointed out her disappointment at the lack of a Buffalo-themed poster. Seeing an opportunity, I emailed Roni, and at his request I volunteered a list of uniquely Buffalo edibles. There is something to be said about social media and the quick results it can net. Roni developed a Buffalo poster using some of my suggestions, and less than 24-hours later, its part of the campaign. You can order your own by contributing $20 to his Kickstarter campaign (which has already reached its goal but is still open for a few more days). Or you can wait for him to launch the project and purchase one then.
