Sounds of the City: Made in America Choral Spectacular
No need to wait for the 4th of July to wave the red, white, and blue. This ambitious afternoon of choral music pledges allegiance to a quartet of America’s best-known homegrown composers and salutes the fact that community and professional choruses are the most popular performing art in the nation. Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus conductor Doreen Rao brings together the BPC, BPO, and the Amherst Bel Canto Choir for works by Bernstein, Barber, Copland, and Ives. Rao will also be working with thirty local high school students, members of the BP Chorus’s innovative High School Affiliates program, who will be featured in the Copland piece. What better way to make the most of Kleinhans’ legendary acoustics than with a supersized vocal ensemble performing music intended to celebrate the wide open spaces and endless opportunities available from sea to shining sea?
2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, at Kleinhans, (833-6642, www.bpchorus.org)
