UB Distinguished Speakers Series: Lance Armstrong
This year’s initial choice as the final UB Distinguished Speaker for 2011–12 was bold—Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. (Last year’s was also pretty wild: a pre-love-child-gate Arnold Schwarzenegger.) Sadly, MacFarlane had to cancel his April 28 appearance, but the slot was filled with someone even more interesting (and a tad less controversial): Lance Armstrong. The cancer survivor and seven-time Tour de France winner’s LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Campaign has made those little yellow wristbands a ubiquitous sight, and his lecture will surely cover the charity’s success. (For info on the campaign, visit livestrong.org.) So no Peter Griffin impressions, but an infinitely more inspiring evening, to be sure.
