In the first decade of the twentieth century, the bungalow or Craftsman style – characterized by sheltered porches, sturdy wood moldings, earth tone colors, and interiors centered around a cozy hearth – embodied the romanticized ideal of the American home.  On this tour we will explore picturesque Tillinghast Place, a tree-lined street with a wonderful collection of bungalows, Craftsman houses, and the last home built by Frank Lloyd Wright in Buffalo.  A history of the rise of the bungalow and a brief history of this special north Buffalo neighborhood will be discussed.

This tour meets at the southeast corner of the intersection of Colvin Avenue & Tilinghast Place, Buffalo, NY 14216. Parking is available in the parking lot of Nichols School - please use the school's front parking lot at the corner of Amherst and Colvin. Street parking is also available on Tillinghast Place and other nearby streets - note that Tillinghast Place is a one-way street that must be entered from Parkside Avenue.
