CEPA Gallery 12th Biennial Art Auction:
Inviting art collectors and enthusiasts to register now for Western New York’s only professional art auction.
CEPA Gallery is delighted to announce its 12th Biennial Art Auction on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Market Arcade Building in downtown Buffalo’s Theatre District. Garnering significant recognition over the past 20 years, CEPA’s biennial auction is the only professional art auction in Western New York and one of Buffalo’s most glamorous and festive art events.
This year honorary co-chairs, New York State Senator Timothy M. Kennedy & Katie Kennedy, and Doctors Julio and Amy Alvarez-Perez, along with auction chair and CEPA Board President Nancy J. Parisi are forging new territory by acquiring work from artists working in a variety of media for the auction.
A preview exhibition of all of the works available for sale at the auction opens on Saturday, March 29 at CEPA Gallery and remains on view through auction day – Saturday, April 26. The exhibition is free of charge and open to the public, providing visitors with the unique opportunity to view artwork/auction lots in a gallery setting.
CEPA has secured donations from an impressive roster of nearly 80 artists with local, national, and international acclaim including Cindy Sherman, Reed Anderson, Charles Clough, Milton Rogovin, William Wegman, John Pfahl, Ellen Carey, Alice O’Malley, Julian Montague, Justine Kurland, and many more. Many of the artists represented in the auction are from or have strong connections to Buffalo—the vast majority having participated in exhibitions at CEPA Gallery (or at Big Orbit Gallery – recently merged with CEPA), and all recognize CEPA Gallery as an important arts institution.
This auction also marks the second year of the Rogovin Circle, the VIP auction ticket, named after late photographer Milton Rogovin (1909–2011). Jana Eisenberg, CEPA volunteer and arts writer, serves as concierge for Rogovin Circle patrons who, at a $150 patron level admission (or $250 per couple), are offered exclusive programming and perks. Each patron joining the Rogovin Circle receives an invitation to an exclusive VIP auction preview party few weeks before the auction.
In addition to viewing the auction artwork in CEPA’s Flux and Passageway Galleries, the items may be viewed at www.cepagallery.org.
Auction registration and absentee bidding are also available via the CEPA website.
General admission to the auction is $75 ($125 per couple) and includes an auction paddle, a full-color catalogue, an elegant buffet, and open bar. Rogovin Circle VIP admission is available for $150 ($250 per couple), and includes the private party on April 10, 2014 and additional exclusive VIP benefits.
The auction reception begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Market Arcade with ambient music by DJ Dr. Wisz. The live auction begins promptly at 7:00 p.m.
