Great Dates / Get in on the action at Canalside

Bump up the fun

Photos by Stephen Gabris

Best for: Passive aggressive canoodlers

Where: Canalside, Pizza Plant, Timmy Ho’s

This date is best for couples caught in the grind of everyday life, maybe constantly caring for kids or working, couples who need to get out for a few hours and remember who they are and why they got together in the first place.

How better than to get outside and enjoy the city in winter? Cold weather activities at Canalside include ice-skating, curling, ice bikes, and—added this year—bumper car rentals.

A winter date could begin with any of the above, but bumper cars could also be a cathartic way to work out marital angst.

Here are the bumper car deets: Rentals are available 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 3 to 10 p.m. Friday; and noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Reserve your slot at either the Canalside kiosk or the winter pavilion, both on-site. Reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis. Each reservation is fifteen minutes start to finish, with seven minutes actual time in the cars. The cost is $7. Keep in mind, riders must wear flat, closed-toe shoes.

Fill wait time at Tim Hortons across the street and enjoy a cup of coffee or hot chocolate before the ride. After the ride, check out the nearby Pizza Plant, 125 Main Street, and enjoy a cozy, casual dinner of pizza and craft beer. Use the opportunity to plan your next Canalside adventure.
