Squeaky Wheel’s Peepshow: It’s Complicated

February 26, 2011

It’s Peepshow time again, folks, as the downtown media center Squeaky Wheel’s wildly popular fundraiser-art show returns on February 26. As past attendees know, it features curated artist installations, videos, performances, and an art auction, resulting in a truly joyous night in Buffalo. And part of the fun, of course, will be seeing how participating artists interpret the “It’s Complicated” subtitle. As the call for work nicely puts it, “Artists of all kinds (media, installation, sculpture, performance) are invited to interpret this year’s theme of It’s Complicated—an often-apologetic preface when entering hearty deliberations about world politics, globalization, or economic policies; a notorious description for defending the inherently complex dynamics of personal relationships, gender, or sexuality; and sometimes the dreaded top notch of a difficulty rating system for various ‘how-tos’ in the realm of vegan cooking, furniture building, home-improvements, or gourmet coffee-making.” Yup—it’s complicated, and deliciously so. Plus, DNIPRO is one of WNY’s unknown jewels, a large, historic, unique space befitting such a beloved benefit.

Saturday, February 26 at the DNIPRO Ukranian Cultural Center, 562 Genesee St., Buffalo; 884-7172 or squeaky.org.
