Hot 5: July at ArtPark
The summer concert game has changed. Quite literally, almost every night of the week there is a worthy concert, some free, some inexpensive. Artpark smartly made the decision to charge for its Tuesday shows, while keeping the Wednesday concerts free. I think folks will have no problem paying for those performances, since, as usual, it’s a mix of radio-friendly favorites (Sheryl Crow on August 14), eighties icons (Huey Lewis & the News on July 3, Heart on July 24), and respected rockers (Steve Miller Band on July 31). While the First Niagara Tuesday in the Park concerts might have more name recognition, it’s the free Coors Light Wednesday lineup that truly intrigues. July sees Buffalo favorites Lowest of the Low on July 11, the Trews on July 25, Citizen Cope in July 25, and, on August 20, the legendary Jane’s Addiction. And of course, Andrew Bird, a Hot 5 veteran, is back on July 16. Along with Weezer and Feist at the Harbor (separately), this show is likely July’s most promising.
