Hot 5: Lewis & Clark exploration

We have several calendar reliables—venues and organizations that can always be counted on for some fun, unique events—and Reinstein Woods is near the top. Gorgeous, convenient, and family-friendly, the Woods offers year-round good times, and May features everything from a special Earth Day event on May 14 to a guided bird walk (May 15) and a nothing-to-do-with-Michael-Jackson “moon walk” (May 17). But my top pick for May Reinstein fun is the “Lewis and Clark Exploration” on May 7. This morning scavenger hunt lets attendees test their map-reading and map-making skills, coupled with a pleasant nature walk. It’s kind of like the posthumously released Chris Farley vehicle Almost Heroes, but with a happier ending.

10 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, at Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve, 93 Honorine Dr., Depew; 683-5959 or www.dec.ny.gov/education/1837.html.
