For many, back to school pales in comparison to “back to football” as a fall rite of passage. For decades, even centuries, competitive sporting events have come with a long list of rituals that are often almost as important as the final score, and we found that Buffalo Bills fans have added a few of their own. Team members might get traded, but the fans stay here, passing along their enthusiasm and loyalty to successive generations. Even when fans leave town, they find a way to make gameday important, wherever they land. As a monthly print magazine, Spree can’t cover the play-by-play, report on traning camp, or get predictions for next week’s game, but we can capture some snapshots of what it means to be a Bills fan. Indeed, our photographer Stephen Gabris’s tailgating shots do this beautifully all on their own.
