John Cleese

He’s been a Cornell professor, Academy Award nominee, best-selling memoirist, and co-author of a Superman comic. He may well be the only actor to have appeared in the James Bond, Harry Potter, and Shrek franchises, as well as multiple video games. There’s a lemur, an asteroid, and a municipal garbage dump in New Zealand named after him. Oh, and he was in a comedy sketch group called Monty Python half a century ago. Now John Cleese is headed back to Buffalo with his Why There Is No Hope one-man show, arriving an entirely reasonable six years after his Last Time to See Me Before I Die tour. As a lifelong lefty who voted for Brexit, he may not have much hope left, but he’s got no shortage of material. —Ron Ehmke
