Garden Walks

NATURE / RECREATION

July 20

East Side Garden Walk

Now in its second year, this sprawling self-guided tour of a wide selection of gardens east of Main Street includes properties in the Kensington, Leroy, Masten Park, and Fruit Belt neighborhoods. Best to try this one with a bike or car for easier travel to the different garden clusters; some of them are far apart. The tour is filled with beautiful and unusual gardens, including the famous “jazz garden,” which was widely publicized last summer; you’ll find it among the cluster of gardens on Mercer and Benwood Avenues. There are also several urban farm sites, including the Wilson Street Farm.

Along the way, tour participants can check out such landmarks as the Freedom Wall, Nash House Museum, and Martin Luther King Jr. Park. There is no headquarters or specific starting point; get a downloadable map from the gardensbuffaloniagara.com.
