From The Editor With this issue, Buffalo Spree joins over fifty other city/regional magazines who annually offer “Best Doctor” surveys of their region. We chose to work with the Boston-based firm Best Doctors, Inc., which has been surveying physicians nation-wide for over ten years. Their question is simple: “If you or a loved one needed a doctor in your specialty, whom would you choose?” It is important to note that only doctors who have been chosen as the “best” in previous surveys contribute to each annual survey. Of course, any survey such as this is only one tool to use in choosing a physician; we are well aware that many excellent physicians practising in Western New York do not appear on this list. We offer the list in the interests of serving our readership; we also think readers will be intrigued to know how many doctors practising here have national, even international reputations. I was fascinatedand impressedby the ten up-close profiles of individual doctors. We truly are blessed with a large and diverse talent pool in this relatively small community. In future issues, Buffalo Spree will be exploring other categories to see who is considered the “Best” or “Top” in their various fields. The experience of other city magazines has demonstrated again and again that these are the type of features that readers want and use. On a somewhat lighter note, we are also happy to include a very unscientific survey of local media makers who are making a name for themselves in the larger film industry and a selective look at film and other media making here in Western New York. I must here recognize the stellar efforts of Associate Editor Ron Ehmke, who did most of the work of compiling an annotated timeline of Western New York in film and an A-Z list of local people in the business, as well as some fascinating sidebars on Thomas Edison’s early filmmaking efforts in Buffalo, popular shooting locations in the area, and more. There’s a lot of information in this issue; we hope you enjoy reading itand, please, let us know what you think!
