From the Editor As I write this in the beginning of December, 2006, I am tempted to look back on the year Buffalo Spree Publishing has had. And it is truly something to look back upon with considerable amazement. Although Spree has had many milestones since I started as editor in 1999including leaps to six and then eight issues per year, with double the number of pages in each; and a near-tripling of the editorial, production, design, and sales staffI think the strides we have made this year in our involvement with the Western New York community are perhaps the most important. In 2006 we successfully organized two major events: the first-ever Spree Best Of party in April and an architecture celebration in July. We co-hosted two opening night parties at Studio Arena, for their Bad Dates and Fourth Wise Man productions. We helped support the Elmwood Art Festival, the Burchfield-Penney Art Center, Camp Good Days and Special Times, the Emerald Ball, the March of Dimes, Gilda’s Club, Literacy Volunteers, Hallwalls, and Plantasia, among other organizations and events. Spree is out there and we’re loving it. In 2007, as we celebrate our 40th anniversary (look for a special issue in September), we plan on even more community involvement, starting with our first special event of 2007, the Spree Bachelor’s Auction (to benefit the American Heart Association Go Red for Women campaign) on February 8th. This will be great fun, whether you plan to bid or not. Hope to see you there!
