From the Editor

In Spree’s July/August 2006 Architecture Issue, we celebrated exciting new construction as well as Western New York’s historic built environment. In this issue, we continue to focus on the area’s working architects, this time looking at some of the most impressive residential projects that have been undertaken and completed by talented Western New York professionals. As beautiful as the facades of Buffalo’s homes are, the renovations that have taken place behind those facades can be equally extraordinary. Spree readers will be seeing many of those interiors in this Home Design issue.

The image on this month’s cover, which shows an interior of an internationally-recognized design by Mehrdad Hadighi, chair of the UB School of Architecture, is an example of some of the most forward-thinking architectural practice around. We are fortunate that Hadighi and many of his equally-talented colleagues call Buffalo home. In future issues we will continue to highlight Western New York’s newest and most exciting architecture.

As a final thought, I would like to add my personal tribute to the memory of former Spree publisher David McDuff. He, too, was a forward-thinking and innovative member of our community, and he will be sorely missed. Thank you, Larry for putting into a few, very meaningful words our debt to this colleague and friend.
