From the Editor

Many of you are aware that soon there will be even more Spree to love—and we’ve already started working on it. We are very excited about being able to offer ten issues in 2008, adding separate June and October magazines to the current line-up.

This expansion of our editorial coverage wouldn’t be possible without the addition of associate editor Christopher Schobert as a fulltime member of the editorial staff, joining me and part-time associate editor Ron Ehmke. Chris is managing our fifty-plus paper Forever Young as well as adding his skill and expertise to the ever-growing Buffalo Spree. He is a graduate of the University at Buffalo with a B.A. in Media Studies and a Master’s in English, and has taught composition as well as worked at various other local publications. His obsessions include British rock music (specifically mid-nineties Britpop), film (especially filmmakers Wong Kar-Wai and Stanley Kubrick), the Sabres, and the Bills.

In this issue, check out Chris’s articles on the Toronto Film Festival and two recently-published books on the Buffalo Bills. He also wrote about Black Friday for our Buffalo Days column and previews the Babel literary series. Well, that should give you an idea of his indispensability! You’ll enjoy his writing as much as we welcome his managerial help.

On other celebratory Spree fronts, please note that we are media sponsors of two wonderful fundraisers this month: the Hunter’s Hope Candlelight Gala on November 9 and the World’s Largest Disco on November 24. We are also working with WBFO on their Buffalo Music Project (see wbfo.org/xponential/buffalomusic.php3).

As you can see, we have taken the party theme of this issue to heart. We hope to see you out and about as our wonderful Western New York fall/winter party season begins.
