From the Editor

People often tell us we make Buffalo and Western New York look good. Some people even say we make it look better than it is. As incredible as it may seem, we actually don’t try to do either of those things. We choose topics we think are interesting, consult with our writers, and send them out to cover those topics. Somehow, what results is a picture of Western New York that is attractive and upbeat.

So here’s my response: our portrayal of WNY is attractive and upbeat because WNY is a beautiful, fun place to live, any season of the year. The people who live here are smart, and interesting, and that’s what you see in these pages.

Having said all that, is it any wonder that we also found WNY to be a very stylish place? Again, it wasn’t a heavy lift. We found plenty of cool boutiques with interesting fashions, as well as dynamic, opinionated, energetic people who fit our definition of “stylish.” We also had a wealth of great locations to choose from; we picked the Mansion on Delaware Avenue for our cover shoot because it combines the best of WNY style: historic, thoughtfully restored architecture and forward-thinking interior design. Many thanks to the Mansion for providing such a great backdrop for the shoot, and thanks to the boutiques for lending the clothes.

On a totally different note, though you may not find the people in the picture below very stylish, we wanted to share it with you nonetheless because it’s a behind-the-scenes look at almost the entire staff of Buffalo Spree Publishing, as we gather for our annual Halloween picture. See if you can figure out who’s who.

Best wishes for the holidays,
