What do a bowling alley, a cemetery, a bar, and a water tower have in common? They’re all on our extremely unofficial list of top ten landmarks. How about a First Amendment lawyer, a mascot, and an orchestra director? They’re all on our top forty folks-you-need-to-know list. And that’s what our city guide is all about: finding the sometimes-missed beauty in the everyday, simple pleasures of our backyard, and the reasons so many of us are so darned proud to call ourselves Buffalonians. We’ve also got profiles of some of WNY’s most innovative planners—people like Joy McDuffie and Justin Azzarella—and a sampling of our favorite neighborhoods. Finally, writers Joe Sweeney and Jessica Keltz take a look at Buffalo’s burgeoning Muslim-American and Somali communities. It’s our guide to our city—a place that changes for the better every day.
